This album, from sessions at Rudy Van Gelder's studio in 1984 (quintet) and 1988 (duos with Ray Drummond on 'But Not For Me' and 'Pannonica'), was Peter Leitch's first after arriving in NYC from Montreal. Remastered for CD, it shows a group of virtuoso players working out on top-level material in a relaxed and positive environment. What could be better? 'Exhilaration' and 'Slugs in the Far East' announce Leitch's brilliant compositional sense, which would help drive his production for the next few decades. His mastery was eventually recognized by jazz guitar aficionados everywhere. And Pepper Adams was his perfect foil - A superb album!
